3 Heart Chakra Healing Practices

What is heart chakra healing? There are 114 chakras (energy centres) in the human body and auric field. of these 114, there are seven primary chakras, which run up the mid-line of the body. The central chakra is located in the middle of the chest and is known as the Anahata chakra. Anahata is Sanskrit for ‘heart.’ It is the bridge between the lower ‘physical’ and upper ‘spiritual’ chakras, and so it is extremely important that it is functioning correctly.

The Anahata chakra is known as the seat of unconditional and infinite love. It governs our capacity to give and receive love, compassion, empathy, kindness and forgiveness – both to and from other people, and to and from ourselves. These energy centres can become blocked due to traumatic experiences, poor lifestyle choices, and environmental factors. With heart chakra healing practices, we can unblock and clear the Anahata chakra and draw on the infinite resources of love, gratitude, compassion and forgiveness that lies within us.

Why is Heart Chakra Healing So Important?

We have all experienced emotional trauma to some degree during our lives. Depending on how good we are at dealing with it and processing it at the time, this trauma affects our Anahata chakra, closing it down, blocking the flow of energy in and out. If we don’t clear this stagnant energy, over time our heart becomes more and more closed. This results in a multitude of issues, including:

  • Inability to give and receive love
  • Suspicion and distrust
  • Low sense of self-worth
  • Self-acceptance issues
  • Defensiveness and aggression
  • Frayed family relationships
  • Feeling lonely and lost
  • Feeling misunderstood and undervalued
  • Depression, anxiety, and other mental wellbeing issues

Heart Chakra Healing and Emotional Trauma

Heart chakra healing means healing from all of these symptoms because they all stem from emotional trauma. What most of us do instead of dealing with the trauma is to bury it and pretend it never happened because it is too painful to face it head on. But by doing that we only make the problem worse.

Shadow Work

Unhealed emotional trauma is the number one thing that stops people from moving forward in their lives and with their spiritual development. It stops them from manifesting their dreams and living their soul purpose.

As long as you keep your trauma buried, you allow it to maintain its powerful hold over you. You stay stuck in repetitive patterns and loops for years, unable to manifest a different result because you are still in the grip of trauma and you haven’t learned the lessons and let it go.

The process of healing past trauma is known as shadow work. It is not comfortable, but neither is staying stuck in a negative loop pattern repeating all the same mistakes and not getting any further in your life. Shadow work is painful, but it is also transformative. Heart chakra healing is only one small part of shadow work, and we will address this topic in more depth in later articles.

If you have suffered emotional trauma and you want to begin the process of self-healing and transforming your shadows into light, you might like to join my specialised newsletter called ‘The Temple of Light.’ I send weekly articles all about healing your past traumas, conditioning, and limiting beliefs so that you can step into the light, further your spiritual development and live out your soul purpose – what I call your ‘karmic contract’ with the universe.

Heart Chakra Healing and Manifestation

You will have a huge difficulty manifesting your dreams if you have a closed or blocked Anahata chakra. As the Law of Attraction teaches, in order to attract your desires, you need to raise your vibrational frequency. Our vibrational frequency is the rate at which our energetic body vibrates, and this fluctuates all the time.

One of the main factors in lowering this vibrational rate is our emotions. When we feel negative or ‘heavy’ emotions regularly, our frequency lowers. When we reside in the higher vibration emotions, our frequency raises. The highest vibration emotions are love and gratitude, and these are governed by the heart chakra. Therefore, if you have a blocked Anahata chakra, you will find residing in these emotional states much more difficult, thus making your manifestation efforts suffer.

Heart Chakra Healing Practices

There are many ways you can perform heart chakra healing on yourself. If you do any type of energy healing or reiki, that is a fantastic place to start. Simply focus your healing modality on your Anahata chakra. Do this daily until you start feeling a difference.

If you are not an energy healer, don’t despair, I have outlined three easy practices you can do at home yourself to clear heart chakra blockages and heal this important energy centre.

Meditation, Visualisation and Mantra

Meditation and visualisation on the Anahata heart chakra are excellent ways to open the flow of energy. Visualise a green twelve-petaled lotus in the centre of your heart space. See the green lotus spin with your exhalations, as if you are blowing away any blockages. Then, visualise the colour of the lotus flower becoming vivid and bright until its magical light fills up your entire body, infusing your energy field with the energy of love and compassion. If you like guided meditations, try this practice I recorded for YouTube:

Mantra chanting is a strong heart chakra practice. Mantras are sacred sounds that when chanted resonate a specific energetic frequency through the body, realigning and reharmonising the vibrational frequency from within. That’s why it is more powerful to chant mantras rather than just listen to them, although listening will still have an effect.

The aligned vibrations of the Anahata seed mantra YAM work directly on the chakra and bring about deep heart chakra healing. Chant YAM while listening to meditation music and allow it to rise out of your heart space and purify any blockages there. You can use this video if you prefer a guided practice.

Crystal Healing

Crystals are powerful energy tools. They have a stable Dormant Oscillatory Rate (DOR), which is why they are so great at helping to stabilise our ever-fluctuating oscillatory rate. Each type of crystal has a different vibrational frequency, and there are some that are particularly aligned with the ideal frequency of each chakra and can help to realign them.

Heart chakra healing crystals are usually green because green is the colour of the chakra, but they can also be pink. Good heart chakra healing crystals to use include:

  • Rose quartz
  • Green aventurine
  • Amazonite
  • Unakite
  • Emerald
  • Green calcite
  • Peridot

To use crystals for heart chakra healing, simply lay down in a comfortable position and place your chosen stone in the centre of your heart space. You can use more than one if you are drawn to that option. It’s always best to trust your intuition.

Relax and allow your breath to slow and deepen naturally as you tune into the crystal’s energy. You may feel a tingling or warming sensation as the stone’s energy frequency interacts with your own. Just relax there until you feel the session is complete.

If you want to enhance your healing session you can play some soft relaxing music, light candles and incense, and use any other crystals on different parts of your body that you feel intuitively drawn to.

Gratitude Journalling

As I said earlier, gratitude and love are the highest vibration emotions, and we can use them to clear heart chakra blockages and raise our vibrational frequency. Gratitude jouralling is such a beautiful and transformative practice. The best thing about it is how easy it is to do! All you need is a notebook, a pen and three minutes per day.

Select a time to do your journalling practice when you will not be disturbed. Try to make it the same time each day so that you make it into a habit. Light a candle or some incense to set a relaxed atmosphere if that appeals to you. Take a few deep breaths and then write three to ten different things you are grateful for today. Big and small, write them all down because they all count. Some of my recent entries have included:

  • My morning coffee
  • My beautiful son
  • My home by the sea
  • The smell of autumn
  • The fact that I am safe and healthy
  • The unexpected connection I had with the shop server
  • My new friends that have recently come into my life
  • That I can help people by sharing knowledge, intuition and healing

The key here is to choose different things each day. It is easy to say you are grateful for your family and friends, your warm home and your pets each day but it won’t have the same effect. If you want to supercharge your gratitude journalling and heart chakra healing effects, when you write something, take a moment to visualise it and reflect on why you feel so grateful for its presence in your life.

After a while of practicing, you will notice yourself seeking things to write in your gratitude journal throughout your day, and that’s when you know that the practice is transforming your thinking patterns and your energy field. Actively seeking opportunities to be grateful is a deep spiritual practice all of its own and hold a lot of transformative power.

Final Thoughts

There are so many ways to go about heart chakra healing, these are just my top three ways for beginners to get started with this vital work. Other things to think about are ways to improve your relationship with yourself and practice self-love and self-forgiveness, and ways you can be of service to others. Selfless service for the sake of giving has an extremely healing effect on the Anahata chakra, as does forgiving yourself for past mistakes.
